Improved regulation for Nutritional Therapists
19th January 2009
Well it’s been a long time coming but at last the register to join the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) has opened. The links below give a bit more information about both the council and the register. I personally am hoping that this will help to weed out those people who are far from qualified to be dishing out nutritional advice. I am two years through a four year bachelors degree in Nutritional Therapy and there is a huge amount to learn ranging from anatomy and physiology to disorders of almost every system in the body, not to mention the benefits and otherwise of a huge range or micro nutrients. It’s frightening (and annoying) to think that some people take a weekend course and then set up clinic dishing out advice. Nutritional therapy has the potential to improve the lives of many people where there is no adequate conventional treatment, as a support to conventional medicine and even as a preventative measure. Improved regulation means that only those who really understand and care about the subject will be given the opportunity to promote its use in the wider public. My only gripe is that it’s voluntary but maybe this will change in time.
